THE GAAP SAFETY NEW DRIVER CHALLENGE SERIES IS ACCEPTING TEAM AND DRIVER REGISTRATION.
Welcome to GAAP Safety. Our mission is to reduce the incidence of loss of life and property in traffic crashes. Currently, our efforts are focused on teen drivers however we believe our work will benefit everyone who wishes to improve their driving skills. Our current project is a collection of twenty articles for parents and teens to read together over the early days of licensure. These articles provide useful tips on employing the GAAP System for Driving Safety which is explained in detail on this website.
At GAAP Safety, traffic safety is not about avoiding collision. Rather, it is about NEUTRALIZING RISK. As you read our material, you'll find a new and refreshing approach to traffic safety. Starting with the leading word in the GAAP acronym "Gentleness", and weaving through our three word triad "Never, Always, Once," you'll find useful tools to help your young adult family members and yourself, achieve unparalleled driving safety.
We believe that the cause of many collisions is the failure to adopt a risk avoidance mindset, and develop habits that support that mindset. Each time a driver passes through a risk zone successfully without effectively neutralizing the risk, their mental database of risk has an additional incorrect entry. For example, when a driver successfully rushes a yellow light, the mind considers that behavior safe. Unless a driver intentionally programs their mind to avoid that behavior, only a crash or close call changes the mind's risk assessment. The New Driver Challenge contains helpful programming practices that assist drivers in intentionally programming their minds to resist this behavior and many others. Developing these habits will drive successful responses to the sudden rise of risk. The GAAP Safety New Driver Challenge series of articles will aid parents in having ongoing safe driving conversations with their newly licensed teen driver when they are most likely to be involved in a collision. By the way, you'll find we often refer to them as young adult drivers. Driving is one of the most significant steps in becoming an adult. Too often, being a "teen driver" becomes an excuse for non-adult behavior behind the wheel. The Challenge series advances the idea of driving as a giant step into adulthood, and provides excellent guidance on what it means to be an "adult driver."
